SUNNYVALE NAMES NEW PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The City of Sunnyvale has appointed Dave Lewis its new director of parks and recreation. Lewis fills the vacancy created when Robert Walker moved up to become the City’s assistant city manager.

As director of parks and recreation, Lewis will oversee not only the City’s many parks and recreation centers, including golf courses, tennis courts and summer camp programs, but also City facilities, including the community center and senior center.

Sunnyvale has a tradition of a strong commitment to parks and recreation,” said Lewis. “The department is in good shape and I am eagerly looking forward to building on the broad base of existing programs. Parks and recreation is all about quality of life, and I see maintaining a great quality of life as one of our major contributions to Sunnyvale.”

Lewis most recently was the director of recreation and community services in Arcadia, Calif., following his service as director and chief executive officer of Bainbridge Island Park and Recreation District in Washington, and parks and recreation director of the City of Astoria, Ore. and, previously, the City of Laguna Hills, Calif.

City manager Amy Chan said “Dave brings with him a very strong background in parks and recreation management. He has lengthy experience in park design, aquatics, trips and tours, senior services and park amenities. I look forward to Dave’s start and am eager to have him work with our excellent parks and recreation team.”

Lewis received his Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, in 1976. Lewis will begin with the City of Sunnyvale on August 1. The salary control point for parks and recreation director is $146,992.
