EINSTEIN COMES TO THE SUNNYVALE PUBLIC LIBRARY

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – One hundred years ago, Albert Einstein grappled with the implications of his revolutionary special theory of relativity and came to a startling conclusion: mass and energy are one. This realization is embodied by what has become the world's most recognizable equation: E=mc2.

In celebration of this important milestone, the Sunnyvale Public Library has been named one of 20 libraries nationwide to serve as an outreach site for the upcoming NOVA television special, Einstein’s Big Idea. The special is based on David Bodanis’ book E=mc2: A Biography of the World’s Most Famous Equation.  Einstein’s Big Idea is produced for PBS by the WGBH/NOVA Science unit.

The Library has received an outreach grant from Boston’s WGBH-TV NOVA Science Unit and the American Library Association to develop local programming this fall to help visitors of all ages learn about Einstein and his theories.

All Library programs are free to the public, although some require advance registration. Einstein’s Big Idea debuts Tuesday, October 11, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on many PBS stations across the country. More information about Einstein and his revolutionary work can be found at www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/einstein/.  More information about the Einstein program series at the Sunnyvale Library can be found at einstein.inSunnyvale.com.

Sunnyvale Library is located at 665 West Olive Ave., across from City Hall. Free parking is always available, and VTA line 54 serves the Library. More information on Library programs and activities is available on the Library’s Web site at www.sunnyvalelibrary.org, or by calling the Reference Desk at
