BALLOT PROPOSITIONS EXPLAINED, COUNCIL CANDIDATES SPEAK
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Sunnyvale voters will fill three seats on the City Council and decide several local ballot measures when they go to the polls November 8. Voters will also weigh in on several propositions as part of a special statewide election covering a range of issues, including parental notification of abortion, requirements for teacher tenure, use of union dues for campaign contributions, options for prescription drug discounts, limits in state spending and state control over electricity providers. Local ballot measures will include increases in the business license tax and the transient occupancy, or hotel, tax and proposed updates to the Sunnyvale City Charter.
The Cupertino-Sunnyvale chapter of the League of Women Voters, in cooperation with the City of Sunnyvale, will host two informational events to help voters make informed decisions on the issues and candidates. On Wednesday, October 12 at 7 p.m., the League will hold a candidates forum at Sunnyvale City Council Chambers, 456 W. Olive Ave., bringing together this year’s candidates for Sunnyvale City Council for a two-hour discussion of local issues. The forum will be televised live on KSUN-15, and rebroadcast several times.
To assist voters with objective explanations of these complex and occasionally controversial propositions, the Sunnyvale Public Library is sponsoring a free informational program on Monday, October 17. From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., members of the League will present the pros and cons of the state propositions and local ballot measures.
