BODY DISCOVERED AT SMaRT STATION®
Sunnyvale, Calif. – Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigators were called to the SMaRT Station early Tuesday morning (September 5) when a body was discovered inside the facility.
According to DPS investigators, the body was found shortly before 6 a.m. on a conveyor belt inside the facility. The victim has only been identified as a white female. Initially all operations at the SMaRT Station® were halted, but by 10 a.m. investigators allowed trucks to re-enter part of the facility and some operations were resumed.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner arrived on scene about 9:30 a.m., and will be responsible for determining the victim’s identity and cause of death.
The SMaRT Station® is the Sunnyvale Materials Recovery and Transfer Station. The station is a partnership between the cities of Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Palo Alto, and serves more than a quarter-million residents and businesses in those cities. The City of Sunnyvale oversees the SMaRT Station®, where more than 1,500 tons of solid waste can be processed per day.
