HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF EL CAMINO REAL IN SUNNYVALE

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – On its 600-mile journey from the Mexico border to Sonoma, El Camino Real – the state’s oldest major road –runs right through the heart of Sunnyvale. Now the City of Sunnyvale wants the public’s help in determining what the future holds for its stretch of The King’s Highway.

In addition to connecting Sunnyvale to other South Bay and Peninsula communities, El Camino Real serves Sunnyvale with many types of businesses, including retail goods and services, such as auto dealerships, electronics stores and markets. In the 1990s, the Precise Plan for El Camino Real was prepared to provide a plan to enhance the economic and design quality of the street. Now that plan is 13 years old, and a renewed interest in development along El Camino Real has created a need to update the plan.

The City is inviting members of the community to contribute their ideas to the updated plan at a public meeting, 7 p.m., Thursday, September 14, at the Sunnyvale Community Center Neighborhood Room, 550 E. Remington Drive. For more information or to provide input prior to the meeting, call Sunnyvale Principal Planner Andrew Miner at (408) 730-7707, TDD (408) 730-7501, or e-mail aminer@ci.sunnyvale.ca.us
