SUNNYVALE’S COLUMBIA NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER CELEBRATES TEN YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
SUNNYVALE, Calif. –Columbia Neighborhood Center (CNC) will celebrate its tenth year of service to the Sunnyvale community on November 4 from 10 a.m. to noon. The anniversary ceremony, open to the community, will feature a public art dedication, breakfast and an open house.
CNC was born from a partnership between the City of Sunnyvale and Sunnyvale School District, a $1 million donation from Sunnyvale-based Advanced Micro Devices, and input from community members and local agencies. For 10 years, the Center has been providing the Sunnyvale community with access to a health clinic, counseling, adult education, recreation programs, health insurance assistance, neighborhood safety programs, community events and other services.
During the ceremony, local officials will dedicate a new public art piece located at the entrance to the Center. The work of art was created by Columbia Middle School students Anissa Benabbas, Kanh Bui, Nancy Carpio, Erika Cristobal, Lisette Escobedo, Melissa Jennifer, Sara Magee, Kayimoa Masiano, Victoria Amador, Lorena Barajas and Karla Medeiros. Artist Melissa Jennifer led the students in the After School Art Apprenticeship program, developed by the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation and supported by the Kids Learning After School program and CNC.
Following the ceremony, there will be a continental breakfast and an open house showcasing the Center’s services, including a demonstration of the after-school boxing program. The open house will include an exhibit of photos and articles from the Center’s past, as well as art pieces from the After School Art Apprenticeship.
The Columbia Neighborhood Center is located at 785 Morse Avenue, next to Columbia Middle School in Sunnyvale. For more information, call (408) 523-8150, TDD (408) 730-7501.
