SUNNYVALE NAMES NEW MAYOR, VICE MAYOR
SUNNYVALE, Calif. –Sunnyvale City Council has selected Otto Lee as the fifty-seventh mayor of Sunnyvale. Anthony (Tony) Spitaleri was selected by Council to serve as vice mayor. Lee and Spitaleri took office following a ceremonial swearing-in at Council’s November 21 meeting.
Lee has been a member of the City Council since 2003, serving as vice mayor for the last year. A patent attorney, Lee is the founder and managing attorney of Intellectual Property Law Group LLP. Lee also holds the rank of Commander in the Naval Reserve.
Lee currently represents the City with a number of organizations, including the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and Santa Clara County Cities Association (Legislative Action Committee and Joint Economic Development Policy Committee). In addition, Lee has a history of public service, having served as a Sunnyvale planning commissioner from 1998 to 2003, and the chairperson of the planning commission from 2000 to 2001. Lee is active with the National League of Cities Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials, currently as president, and previously as vice president, and treasurer.

There is exciting growth taking place in Sunnyvale, and it will be the City Council’s job to maintain our common vision for the future.”
Spitaleri has served on City Council since 2005. A retired captain from Palo Alto Fire Department with 36 years of service, Spitaleri currently represents the City in the ABAG General Assembly, the League of California Cities Public Safety and Homeland Security committees, the Santa Clara Cities Association Legislative Action Committee and the VTA Policy Advisory Committee.
The Sunnyvale City Council is composed of seven Councilmembers elected at-large for up to two four-year terms. The Mayor and Vice Mayor are selected from among the ranks of the Council and serve for one-year terms. Council meets most Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. in Sunnyvale City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave.
