SUNNYVALE TO HONOR LONG-TIME RESIDENTS
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Most people know Sunnyvale was once a thriving agricultural community, located in what was known at the time as the Valley of Hearts Delight. But how many actually remember those idyllic days? In tribute to the guardians of community history, the City of Sunnyvale will honor more than 100 longtime residents at a “Celebrate 60” event, Wednesday, June 6, at the Historic Del Monte building.
The event will honor individuals who lived in Sunnyvale in 1947 or earlier, and continue to be part of our community today. Celebrate 60 will feature entertainment by the Uncalled Four Barbershop Quartet and singer Judy Perris, as well as Sunnyvale history trivia and recognition of honorees by City Councilmembers. As part of Celebrate 60, Fremont High School students are working on an oral history project that includes interviews and videotaping of longtime residents, and plan to continue the project during the next school year.
