SUNNYVALE PERMITS TEMPORARY NIGHT WORK, WASHINGTON AVENUE CLOSURE, FOR REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Beginning Monday night (June 25), and lasting about two weeks, construction activity will continue overnight on the Sunnyvale Town Center redevelopment project. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., and Wednesday from midnight to 7 a.m., crews will work on construction of underground utilities along Washington Avenue. This work will require the overnight closure of Washington Avenue between Taaffe and Frances Streets during the construction hours.
The regular construction hours approved by the City allow work to be done Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Since the utility work requires a street closure, an exception to the standard hours was approved to minimize the impact of the construction to downtown businesses and their customers.
During construction, detours will be marked to permit access to all of the downtown area, except for the section of Washington between Taaffe and Frances, while the work is underway. The construction equipment being used is significantly quieter than older equipment, which should minimize the impacts of nighttime work. The developer has established a 24-hour complaint number for the project. Anyone with a concern about noise levels should call (408) 978-2198. City staff will continue to work with the developer and contractor to minimize noise and respond to complaints.
