SUNNYVALE DPS WARNS “KEEP YOUR DOORS LOCKED”

Burglars hitting City’s south side through open doors

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) is alerting residents about a series of residential burglaries that have been occurring on the south side of the City. The burglaries are occurring in neighborhoods located south of El Camino Real, between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. The thieves are entering garages via open overhead doors, or entering residences through unlocked doors. Generally, the thieves are targeting purses, wallets or laptop computers from vehicles in the garage. There have been 13 reported incidents to date, with the earliest case occurring in early April.

Residents are urged to close their overhead garage doors and keep the doors leading to their residences locked. Residents are also asked to call 9-1-1 if they spot suspicious people or vehicles in their neighborhood, particularly in the late evening and early morning hours. Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to call the Sunnyvale DPS Investigations Unit at (408) 730-7120.
