SUNNYVALE water main break Affects South side of City, closes Homestead Road
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – At noontime (Thursday, July 26) a break in a 24 inch water transmission line has affected Sunnyvale water service and closed Homestead Road. Water flowing from the break created a sinkhole in the middle of Homestead Road and caused buckling to several hundred feet of roadway. Homestead Road remains closed between Kennewick Drive and Mary Avenue, in front of Homestead High School.
Sunnyvale water customers in a broad portion of the south side of Sunnyvale experienced lower water pressure for a period of time, but full pressure was restored by late afternoon. The affected area was from Homestead Road to El Camino Real and from Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road to Wolfe Road.
The water remained safe to drink and there was adequate water pressure for any fire fighting demands. Sunnyvale Department of Public Works crews are working to make repairs.
