SUNNYVALE SETS PUBLIC MEETING ON DOWNTOWN ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The City of Sunnyvale will hold a public outreach meeting to discuss measures being taken to clean a decades-old deposit of dry cleaning chemicals. The chemicals were discovered during groundwater testing in and around the Town Center redevelopment site. These chemicals do not affect the City’s supply of drinking water.

City staff will be joined by representatives from the developer and the state’s Regional Water Quality Board (RWQCB) to explain the installation of a vapor extraction system in the eastern portion of the Town Center redevelopment property. The system, which is now being put in place, is designed to remove potentially harmful soil vapor released by the dry cleaning chemicals.

The meeting will be held November 1 in the Sunnyvale Public Library Program Room, 665 W. Olive Ave., and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. For more information, a fact sheet is available at City Hall, the Library and the Community and Senior Centers. The fact sheet may also be viewed online by visiting GroundWaterFacts.inSunnyvale.com. For more information, call the Sunnyvale Communications Office at (408) 730-7535, TDD (408) 730-7501.
