WATER PRESSURE TO BE RAISED IN DOWNTOWN SUNNYVALE AREA

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Water pressure in the downtown Sunnyvale area will be raised approximately 30 percent as part of the redevelopment of Sunnyvale Town Center. The affected area is north of Iowa Avenue and west of Sunnyvale Avenue. Changes need to be made to the water system to meet fire suppression standards in the redeveloped Town Center, and the pressure will be raised approximately 20 psi (pounds/square inch).

The affected area may experience changes in water quality during summer months because of the changes being made. The City purchases water from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) and the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD). The Town Center area is currently serviced predominantly by SFPUC water with a small blend of SCVWD water. This will remain unchanged for most of the year, however during times of high water usage, typically the summer months, it is likely that there will be a greater concentration of SCVWD water. Both sources of water are of the highest quality and meet federal and state regulations. For more information on water quality, please refer to the Sunnyvale Water Quality Report available on the City’s Web site at WaterQuality.inSunnyvale.com .

The City plans on making these changes in the second or third week of January 2008. Questions and water emergency calls can be directed to the Public Works Field Services Division at (408) 730-7510, TDD (408) 730-7501.
