U.S. 101 OVERNIGHT CLOSURES IN SUNNYVALE
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – A change in construction schedules has postponed a series of overnight closures of U.S. 101 in Sunnyvale by one week. Portions of U.S. 101 between Mathilda Avenue and Fair Oaks Avenue are now scheduled to be closed overnight between April 21 and April 26. The closure is necessitated by work on the City of Sunnyvale’s Borregas Avenue pedestrian overcrossing construction project.
Northbound U.S. 101 will have lane closures from Fair Oaks Avenue to SR 237 beginning at 9 p.m., and will be completely closed from midnight to 4 a.m., with all lanes reopening by 5 a.m. The southbound side of the freeway will have lane closures from SR 237 to Fair Oaks Avenue beginning at 9 p.m., and will be completely closed from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m., with all lanes reopening by 5 a.m.
During scheduled construction hours, there will be limited or no access from Mathilda Avenue and Fair Oaks Avenue to U.S. 101. At this time, work is scheduled on the northbound side Monday and Tuesday, with southbound closures scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. Unforeseen delays may alter which days the lanes are closed, but there will be numerous message boards and detour signs in the area to direct traffic. Construction crews will attempt to minimize the impact on traffic during these closures.
