SUNNYVALE DPS TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE

SUNNYVALE, Calif.Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety will hold an open house, giving the public an opportunity to see what DPS does, and how they do it. The event will be Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sunnyvale DPS plays an unusual role; the department is one of only a handful in the nation that combines police, fire and emergency medical services into one agency. Public safety officers are qualified as both police officers and firefighters, and over the course of their career they typically spend time in both police cars and fire engines.

The DPS open house will feature tours throughout the day, including the department’s new Bearcat, an armored rescue vehicle purchased with a federal Department of Homeland Security grant. There will be a K-9 demonstration at 11:45 a.m., and an auto extrication rescue demonstration at 2 p.m. A Stanford Life Flight medical evacuation helicopter is also scheduled to fly in during the open house.

Sunnyvale DPS is located at 700 All America Way, across the street from Sunnyvale Public Library. VTA Bus Lines 54 and 22 serve the area. For more information about the open house, call DPS Crime Prevention at (408) 730-7140, TDD (408) 730-7501.
