SUNNYVALE CRIME STATS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

Partnership brings crime and incident data into homes via the Internet

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS), along with eight other Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies, has joined forces with CrimeReports.com to provide crime and incident data to Sunnyvale residents. CrimeReports.com uses the DPS records management system and computer-aided dispatch crime data to create easy to view information. The DPS data is updated every 24 hours.

CrimeReports.com makes it easy to share timely and important local crime data with the public. The information is free to members of the public, and allows users to receive e-mail alerts if a crime occurs near their home. It also allows reported crime activity to be displayed on a map for any location in Sunnyvale. The system identifies the time, location, type of event and other data on calls for service for the most recent 30-day period. Event location information is provided at the block-level or intersection.

“By providing our residents with near real-time crime data, we feel people will become more involved in our crime prevention efforts,” said DPS Captain Doug Moretto.

Public Safety Chief Don Johnson added, “People want to know what is happening in their community. They want to be involved in making a difference in the quality of life we enjoy here in Sunnyvale, and CrimeReports.com can help them do just that.”

The easy-to-read crime maps, simple crime data tools and frequently asked questions about CrimeReports.com are available at CrimeStats.inSunnyvale.com.
