PUBLIC INVITED TO HELP SELECT SUNNYVALE CITY MANAGER

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Members of the public are invited to apply to be on one of two panels that will help select Sunnyvale’s new city manager. Each panel will consist of up to eight members of the public; one panel representing residents and neighborhood associations, and the other businesses. Amy Chan, who has served the City in a number of leadership roles and is currently city manager, has announced her intention to retire this year.

A total of four interview panels have been proposed. One panel will represent City department directors; a second will represent employee organizations; and the remaining two will be the public panels. Those interested in serving on the public panels are asked to complete a simple application form which is available online at Panel.inSunnyvale.com.  Interested residents may fill out the form online and immediately e-mail it directly to the City, or may print it out to be faxed or mailed to the City. Application forms should be filled out and returned to the City promptly.

The City Council subcommittee charged with the recruitment process has recommended the panels meet with candidates August 4 or 5. Council will then receive individual written feedback from each panelist who participates in the interviews; panelists will not be asked to rank candidates.

Council is expected to select a new city manager later this summer. The city manager reports to Council and oversees City operations, acting much the same as a corporate chief executive officer.
