Sunnyvale Celebrates Volunteers

Sunnyvale, CA --

The City of Sunnyvale will celebrate National Volunteer Week, April 22-28, by honoring the hundreds of individuals who contribute their time, energy and expertise to improve the quality of life in our city.

"Change the World – VOLUNTEER!" is the theme for the 28th annual National Volunteer week, which recognizes the efforts of volunteers at the local, state and national level. In Sunnyvale, volunteers change the world daily and locally by serving as tutors, sports coaches, art docents, senior trip escorts, health aides, golf course ambassadors, and assistants in almost every City department. During the last year, 529 volunteers contributed 35,348 hours to benefit the residents of Sunnyvale.

Mayor Jack Walker and the City Council will honor all City volunteers at a reception May 1, 6:30 PM in the Lobby of City Hall, 456 West Olive. The City Council meeting that night will open with an Award Ceremony for this years' outstanding volunteers at 7:30.

For information about the many volunteer opportunities in the City of Sunnyvale or about the Volunteer Recognition Event, please call 730-7533 or visit our web site: www.ci.sunnyvale.ca.us and click on "volunteering."
