Mark Gregersen Appointed Human Resources Director
Sunnyvale, CA -- City Manager Robert LaSala announced the appointment of Mark Gregersen as Director of Human Resources for the City of Sunnyvale. Gregersen is currently the Assistant County Manager for Washoe County, Nevada.
Gregersen has more than twenty years of public sector experience including positions as the Director of Human Resources for the cities of Reno and Vallejo. In his current position, he has line responsibility for nine operating departments in an organization of over 2,800 employees.
"Mark rose to the top through an exhaustive national search. The depth of his experience in human resources and labor relations, as well as general management, will serve the employees of Sunnyvale well," said LaSala. "I am pleased that he has agreed to join our management team," continued LaSala.
"Sunnyvale has a great reputation for excellence in public service. I am very anxious to begin the duties of my new position and I look forward to meeting and working with the employees of Sunnyvale," said Gregersen.
Gregersen will start his new position on June 11. He has a bachelor and masters degree in business administration.
He is married and has two grown children.As Human Resources Director, Gregersen will be responsible for all aspects of employee services, including recruitment, training, risk management and insurance, labor relations, and employee recognition. The department has a staff of 18 and the City of Sunnyvale has approximately 835 full time employees.
Acting Human Resources Director Chuck Schwabe will resume his duties as Deputy City Manager and focus on organizational effectiveness issues when Gregersen takes over in June.
"Chuck has done a yeoman’s job wearing many hats for the past year and I am grateful for his service to the organization as acting director," said LaSala.
