Healthcare Forum at Santa Clara Convention Center
October 3, 2001
Sunnyvale, CA (9/21/01) - Job seekers, educators, students, employers, and other members of the public are invited to a free Healthcare Forum on October 3, 2001 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Experts from the educational field, local government, and the hospital floor will discuss in-depth California's current nursing shortage, the healthcare industry's occupational outlook, careers in the trades, and opportunities for education and training in the filed.
“This
is a wonderful opportunity for people to learn the pulse of Silicon Valley’s
healthcare system and its job market,” said Mike Curran, Director of NOVA, the
organization sponsoring the forum.
Included
among the guest lecturers will be Anita McDaniel, Project Coordinator for the
Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, Barbara Harrelson,
Regional Vice-President of the Hospital Council of Northern and Central
California, and Georgeanne Adamy, Executive Head of the Health Careers
department of De Anza College. An interactive, question-and-answer panel will
follow the presentations.
Attendees
will receive a copy of NOVA’s in-depth industry report, “Healthcare: Pulse of
the Valley.” Members of the public are asked to RSVP by calling (408) 730- 7232
before October 2. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m., and the Forum runs from
9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
The
Healthcare Forum is presented by NOVA, a public-private partnership serving
local job seekers, employers, and the education and training community. The
“Healthcare 2001: Pulse of the Valley” report is the latest in a series of
detailed, qualitative examinations of growing and emerging industries. NOVA’s
Labor Market Information Plus (LMI+) team has also studied the building and
construction trades, information technology, bioscience, digital media,
hospitality and other emerging industries, utilizing field research and an
ethnographic approach that gives first-hand accounts of local workforce issues,
realities, and trends that affect the community.
