Sunnyvale to Conduct Citizen Opinion Survey
Sunnyvale, CA (11/21/01)-- The City of Sunnyvale will conduct a Citizen Opinion and Satisfaction Survey during late November and early December to obtain feedback from residents that will help guide City service delivery. Households will be randomly selected to participate in the survey, which will be administered in English and Spanish.
The City is
working with The Gelfond Group, one of the leading survey research firms in the
nation, to prepare a comprehensive questionnaire that will provide a snapshot
of community opinion on a variety of issues.
The data will be used by the City Council and Sunnyvale staff for
service planning and policy making. “Citizen feedback is critical to helping
the City address emerging issues and deliver high quality services,” remarked
Amy Chan, Assistant City Manager. “We strongly encourage residents who receive
a survey to participate.”
Residents who
receive a survey will be asked to respond by calling an 800 number and using
their touch tone keypad to record answers.
In addition to multiple choice-type questions, some questions will be
open-ended, asking residents to describe their opinion on various issues. Questions will reflect a variety of topics
relevant to quality of life in Sunnyvale, such as traffic, housing, and public
safety. Responses will remain
confidential, and aggregated results will be shared with the community.
From time to
time, the City has conducted citywide opinion surveys to assess general public
awareness and attitudes regarding community issues and municipal services. The Citizen Opinion and Satisfaction Survey
is the fourth of its kind to be administered in the City of Sunnyvale. Results from the 2001 survey will be
compared to the citywide surveys undertaken in 1986, 1996, and 2000 to gauge
trends in public opinion.
The survey is designed to produce results that are representative of the population as a whole, plus or minus four percentage points. For more information about the survey, residents can call the City at (408) 730-7473 or the survey administrator at (888) 435-3663.
