Public Invited to Forum on Downtown Urban Design Study
Sunnyvale, CA (11/28/01) – The public is encouraged to
attend a community forum to review and comment on the draft Downtown Urban
Design plan that will guide development of Downtown Sunnyvale through the next
decade. The forum will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2001 from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. in the Arboretum at the Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 East Remington
Drive.
The forum is being convened by the Downtown
Stakeholders Advisory Committee, a twenty-one member group appointed by the
Sunnyvale City Council and representing Downtown Sunnyvale businesses,
residents, major property owners, and developers. The Committee is seeking public input on the draft Downtown Urban
Design plan before making final recommendations to City Council early next
year.
“Public participation and feedback is an important
part of the downtown design process,” remarked Joe Antuzzi, Chair of the
Downtown Stakeholders Advisory Committee.
“Our Committee wants to hear from anyone interested in the Plan before
we make our recommendation to City Council.”
The Committee is overseeing preparation of the
Downtown Sunnyvale Urban Design Study that seeks to develop a shared vision of
the downtown’s future and create a design framework that links the various
projects together into a unified downtown.
New developments now under construction include the Mozart Downtown
Office Plaza, the Multi-Modal Transportation Center, and the expansion of the
Town Center Mall, also referred to as the WAVE, to include a 20-screen movie
theater and new retail space.
The Committee has met monthly since July 2001 to give input to City staff and consultants on the Downtown Urban Design Study. Their final meeting will be held in early January, at which point the Committee is expected to make their final recommendations to the City Council about the plan.
