Downtown Stakeholders Will Finalize Recommendations at Feb.
12 Workshop
Downtown Urban Design Plan Nearing
Completion
Sunnyvale, CA (1/31/02) – The Downtown Stakeholders Advisory Committee will hold a workshop on February 12 to finalize their recommendations on the draft Downtown Urban Design Plan before it is presented to the Sunnyvale City Council. The Plan – which was crafted over the last seven months with Committee oversight and public input - will guide development of Downtown Sunnyvale through the next decade. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Del Monte Building, 100 S. Murphy Ave. in Sunnyvale. The public is invited to hear the deliberations of the Committee.
The Downtown Stakeholders Advisory Committee is a
twenty-one member group appointed by the Sunnyvale City Council and
representing Downtown Sunnyvale businesses, residents, major property owners,
and developers. “Public participation and feedback have been important parts of
the downtown urban design process,” remarked Joe Antuzzi, Chair of the Downtown
Stakeholders Advisory Committee. “Our Committee has heard from many members of
the community and is now ready to prepare a recommendation to City Council.”
The February 12 workshop is the sixth in a series of
workshops held over the past seven months, along with a public forum, to
consider aspects of the downtown and obtain public input on the plan. The Committee plans to present their
recommended Downtown Urban Design Plan to the Sunnyvale City Council on March
26.
The Plan seeks to develop a shared vision of the
downtown’s future and create a design framework that links the various projects
together into a unified downtown. New
developments now under construction include the Mozart Downtown Office Plaza,
the Multi-Modal Transportation Center, and the expansion of the Town Center
Mall, also referred to as the WAVE, to include a 20-screen movie theater and
new retail space.
