Sunnyvale Appoints New Assistant to the City Manager

Sunnyvale, CA (2/11/02) –  Sunnyvale City Manager Robert LaSala appointed Aretha Ferrell-Brown as Assistant to the City Manager, filling the vacancy created by the departure of Dan Rich last July.  Formerly the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Chicago Public Housing Authority, Ferrell-Brown will join the City of Sunnyvale on February 19.

Aretha's broad base of experience will position her to add significant value to Sunnyvale’s management team,” said LaSala.  “Her expertise in organizational change and improving citizens’ access to government services fits well with many of our City’s current priorities.”

Ferrell-Brown has more than 10 years of experience in federal, state, and local government management.  Prior to joining the Chicago Housing Authority, she served as Assistant Chief Information Officer for the City of Chicago’s Department of Business & Information Services.  She has also held positions at the District of Columbia and Maryland State Government.  She holds a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Howard University, Washington D.C.

The Assistant to the City Manager has a broad base of analytical, project management, and administrative responsibilities in support of the City Manager, other executive managers, and the City Council.  Responsibilities include coordinating staff on a wide variety of assignments, coordinating the analysis of proposed legislation and preparing legislative strategies, monitoring City-sponsored initiatives, and conducting research to advise the executive leadership team.  The Assistant to the City Manager will have a significant impact on formulation of policies and procedures for the City.
