Public Input Sought on Downtown Plaza Design
March 23, 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Sunnyvale, CA (3/13/02) – Sunnyvale residents and
businesses are encouraged to attend a workshop to give input to the design of
the downtown plaza. Envisioned as a
community gathering place, participants will review and discuss different City
plaza design options. The workshop will
be held on Saturday, March 23 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Historic Del Monte
Building, 100 S. Murphy Avenue in Sunnyvale.
"The downtown plaza will be an exciting place
for the community to gather and hold celebrations," said Robert
Patnernoster, Director of the City's Community Development Department. "People told us they wanted a
pedestrian-friendly environment - the plaza helps achieve that while serving as
a focal point for the downtown."
The downtown plaza is a
1.6-acre site located in downtown Sunnyvale at the corner of Evelyn Avenue and
Frances Street, across from the Caltrain station. It will function as a public open space for
downtown residents, workers, and customers.
The plaza is one of several new
developments under construction as part of a long-term plan to revitalize the
downtown. A Downtown Urban Design Plan
has recently been developed with public input to guide development of downtown
Sunnyvale through the next decade. The draft plaza plans incorporate concepts from the
Downtown Urban Design Plan as well as public input from the 2000 City Plaza
Design Charrette.

workshop, contact Erin Walters, Project Planner, at (408) 730-7257 or by email
