Picnic
and Music in the Park
Saturday, May 25
Sunnyvale, CA – The City of Sunnyvale will hold the 2002 State of the City celebration along with a patriotic mini-parade, picnic, and music in the park on Saturday, May 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Before joining the mini-parade, the public is invited to a pancake breakfast from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. in front of City Hall. The mini-parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. at City Hall and continues onto Pastoria Avenue to Washington Park where the day's festivities will occur. The entire community is encouraged to attend this event.
The official program, which begins at 12:00 noon in Washington Park, will feature the Mayor’s State of the City address and presentation of community awards. “For nearly two decades, we have used the State of the City to recognize and commend the outstanding people and organizations that represent the best of our community,” said Mayor Fred Fowler. “This year, our theme 'commemoration of people in service' coincides with Memorial Day to honor the men and women in uniform who serve our country and protect our right to life and liberty.”
Residents are encouraged to bring their families, a picnic lunch, and a blanket to kick off the summer season at this memorable outdoor event. The Fremont High School marching band will lead the mini-parade from City Hall, followed by performances by local school bands in Washington Park. The park contains many recreational facilities including baseball and play fields, tennis courts, a pool, children's playground, and horseshoe pits. Light refreshments and delicious pie will be available for purchase at cost.
