Community Invited to Pancake Breakfast
Fundraiser for All America City Award Competition
Saturday, May 25, 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Sunnyvale, CA (05/16/02) – The community is invited to a pancake breakfast in front of the Sunnyvale City Hall on Saturday, May 25 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The pancake breakfast will take place just before the mini-parade that kicks off this year's State of the City event. Kids and adults will enjoy a variety of public safety demonstrations while helping to raise funds to send Sunnyvale community members to compete in the All America City Award Finalist competition in Kansas City, Missouri in June.

Breakfast will feature fire engines and patrol cars, and attendees can meet the City's firefighters and public safety officers. Kids will enjoy climbing on the fire trucks and meeting Teddy, affectionately known as the City's "bomb-sniffing dog." For a suggested donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors, attendees will be treated to a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice, milk, and coffee. Proceeds will be used to help community members travel to Kansas City to compete for the All America City Award.

Sunnyvale has been selected as one of the 30 Finalist communities for the 2002 All America City Award, the nation’s longest running and most prestigious civic recognition program. Sunnyvale is the only California city that has been selected as a Finalist this year. A program of the National Civic League, the All-America City Award encourages and recognizes civic excellence, honoring communities (neighborhoods, towns, cities, counties and regions) in which citizens, government, businesses and non-profit organizations demonstrate successful resolution of critical community issues.

The 30 Finalists will participate in a final round of the All-America City competition hosted by the greater Kansas City region in Kansas City, Missouri, June 13-15. A delegation from each Finalist community will present to a 10-member jury their innovative programs and local solutions addressing a wide range of social and community issues. The ten 2002 All-America Cities will be named on June 15 during a special ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center.

Sunnyvale City Hall is located at 456 West Olive Avenue. For more information about the pancake breakfast, contact Yolanda Brown at (650) 843-5688.
