SUNNYVALE OFFERS $35,000 IN COMMUNITY EVENT GRANTS

Sunnyvale, CA (10/09/02) – For the second year, in an effort to encourage community-building through special events, the City of Sunnyvale is making $35,000 in grants available to local groups putting on community events.  These can include music concerts, parades, ethnic festivals, art fairs, and many other types of activities.  The deadline to submit applications is December 2, 2002.

Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis, and preference will be given to events expected to attract at least 500 participants.  Grant funding may be applied to up to 40 percent of the budget for qualifying events.  To receive funding, admission to the event must be free and open to the public, held within City limits, and sponsoring organizations must be non-profit.   Additional eligibility requirements are listed in the application.
