Make a Difference Day—October 26, 2002
Sunnyvale, CA (10/21/02) – Known as the “national day of doing good,” Make a Difference Day is a national effort to mobilize people in communities across the country in volunteer service. The Volunteer Sunnyvale program is offering three projects that local residents can join in to help make a difference in this community. They are:
Sunnyvale Middle School—Join students, families, and community volunteers to re-draw the layouts and boundaries for basketball courts, paint emergency numbers on the track, weed and fertilize plants, and improve the open space at Mango Park.
Columbia Middle School—Join a team of students, families, and community volunteers to clean up the campus, maintain the landscaping, and improve the open space at Columbia Middle School and Columbia Park. Contact Claire Garcia at (408) 730-7533 or cgarcia@ci.sunnyvale.ca.us for both school projects.
Promote Recycling in Sunnyvale—Work in teams to deliver new recycling totes and recycling information to apartment dwellers in Sunnyvale. Contact Dorlene Russell at (408) 730-7278 or drussell@ci.sunnyvale.ca.us.
“More and more Sunnyvale residents are connecting with their neighbors and their community through volunteer service,” said Romola Georgia, volunteer services manager of Volunteer Sunnyvale. “On Make a Difference Day, we’ve got a terrific opportunity, right here at home, to join millions of Americans working together to build a better community.”
These projects are registered with the Make a Difference “DAYtaBANK” and with the USA Initiative, honoring lives lost on September 11, 2001. For more information on becoming a Sunnyvale volunteer, visit the City’s website at www.ci.sunnyvale.us and click on “volunteering.”
