City of Sunnyvale Planning Commission Approved |
A regular meeting of the Sunnyvale Planning Commission was held on September 9, 2002, at 8:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale, with Vice Chair Babcock presiding.
Members Present: Vice Chair Babcock, Comms Chu, Lee, Moylan, Satterlee and Swegles
Excused Absent: Chair Simons

Approval of Minutes

Comm. Swegles made a motion to approve the minutes of August 26, 2002 with modifications. Comm. Chu seconded. |
Comm. Swegles commented that on page four of six on Item #2002-0388, he would like his concerns noted regarding customers using street parking rather than the parking lot of the businesses.
Vice Chair Babcock commented that her motion on Item #2002-0354 is to delete Condition of Approval #6 and not only 6A.

Report on Council Meeting

Planning Officers Report
Ms. Ryan reported that the Commission received an updated list of upcoming meetings in September and October. She also announced that the Planning Commission Forums on the downtown design plan will be held on Wednesday, September 18 at the Community Center and again on Wednesday, September 25 at the Fair Oaks Park from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There will be 3-D model available for viewing. She encouraged the public to attend and hear the plan and the alternate plans from some of the residents. She further encouraged the public to visit the city's website for further information. She noted that the notes from the forum will be published on the city's website.
Ms. Ryan announced that for those commissions who were unable to attend the Redevelopment Agency study session, copies of the slides presented at the meeting are available.
Ms. Ryan updated the Commission on Downtown Activities. 1) Construction activities are still going on and acknowledged the hardship in downtown but noted that community will start to see the results. 2) Mozart Development buildings are about to be completed and encouraged the Commission to visit the Mozart Building and the new underground parking garage 3) the new garage for Caltrain will be ready by year-end. 4) Town Center Mall purchase is still pending. 5) Downtown Urban Design Plan Environmental Impact Report (EIR) will be available in December for a 45-day review period. 6) Downtown Plaza - staff has been working with the designer on the development phase.
Comm. Satterlee asked staff if the plaza conceptual plan would be available to the public. Ms. Ryan responded that the plan is available on the city's website.

Comm. Moylan made a motion on Item #2002-0074 to continue to October 14, 2002. Comm. Swegles seconded. Motion carried 6-0 with Chair Simons absent. |
Trudi Ryan, Planning Officer, reminded the Planning Commission that the City Council Agenda includes a section for Boards & Commission to make announcements on behalf of the Commission.
Comm. Swegles asked staff who could make a presentation at the City Council meeting. Ms. Ryan responded that it would typically be the chair but the Commission could select someone to speak on behalf of the Commission.
Comm. Moylan asked whether it is necessary for this item when there is opportunity to speak during the public hearing under citizens to be heard. Ms. Ryan responded that the Commission could speak at either opportunity; this one is specific to Boards & Commission announcements at the beginning of the meeting.
Oral Communications
Comm. Swegles asked staff that since he would not be able to attend the October 14, 2002 hearing, he would like to receive the staff report and communicate his comments. Ms. Ryan responded that written comments could be shared with the Commission.
Comm. Chu reminded the public of the 9/11 Commemorative Event on Wednesday, 9/11 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Comm. Chu further announced that a 2-day Moon Festival will be held at Memorial Park in Cupertino on Saturday, September 21 and 22, 2002.
