SUBJECT: Amendment to the Classification Plan and Salary Resolution: Manager, Information Technology Services (RTC #98-279)

REPORT IN BRIEF

This report recommends the new classification of Manager, Information Technology Services.

BACKGROUND

Until September of 1997, three managerial position report to the Director of Information Technology: (1) Manager, Data Networking and Systems, (2) Administrative Services Manager, and (3) Communications Systems Manager. During that time, however, the Communications Systems Manager left City employment and the duties of this classification were assumed by the Administrative Services Manager. In addition, the Administrative Services Manager assumed responsibility for Information Technology’s user-support group and for the City’s technology training program. Therefore, because of the increased administrative responsibilities, and because of an incumbent’s need to have a good familiarity with issues related to information technology, the City is recommending the creation of this new classification.

ASSIGNMENT OF SALARY RANGE

It is proposed that the Salary Resolution be amended to provide the below-listed pay range for the new classification. The recommended range is 12.5% below that of Manger, Data Networking and Systems and was arrived at by comparing internal relationships.

Manager, Information Technology Services

Job Code: 0331
Pay Range: 533
Control Point: $77,108.00

FISCAL IMPACT

There will be no fiscal impact to the City since this classification is included in the base budget.

PUBLIC CONTACT

The public will be informed by placement on the City Council Agenda.
