SUBJECT: Acceptance of Improvements C Replacement of Water Mains in Duane and Eaglewood Avenues (UW-97-02) – RTC98-291

RECOMMENDATION

That the City Council, by resolution, accept the project as complete and satisfactory.

DISCUSSION

The Contractor, Golden Pacific Construction, Inc., has satisfactorily completed the Replacement of Water Mains in the Duane and Eaglewood Avenues project within the allocated budget and for the final contract amount of $115,375.00.

The work included replacement of the existing cast iron water main in Duane Avenue and Eaglewood Avenue with ductile iron. Also included was the relocation of four fire hydrants, and the installation of valves. The City’s own work crews are progressively connecting resident’s service laterals to the new line and will ultimately abandon the old line.

The work was done as the existing cast iron main had exceeded its useful life, and increasingly frequent failures of the line had been experienced.

The project was inspected by the Public Works Project Administration Section and found to be satisfactory. Acceptance is, therefore, recommended.
