Community Center Grounds Renovation

The Community Center is a popular location for events, recreation and entertainment. This year we're starting a project to update the grounds around the buildings since the site is approximately 50 years old. This will include the ponds, walkways, landscaping and open space. Our goals are to make them more attractive and easier to maintain. We also want to improve the recreational opportunities. We'll be looking for your input along the way. The first step is to determine the scope of work for the project.

Current Status

We selected landscape architecture and civil engineering firm, Verde Design, Inc., as the design consultant. Together we will develop a design that meets the project goals. We will include input from community meetings and surveys.

Community input will help guide the renovations. Construction options may include:

New auxiliary restroom
Playground and picnic areas
Dog park
Amphitheater
Playground structure(s)

Replacement and update options may include:

Pathway and parking lot lighting systems (with energy efficient fixtures)
Ornamental pond removal
Landscaping irrigation-pump system and drainage systems
Park fixtures, including benches and tables, with recycled plastic equipment
Portions of concrete pathways
Landscaping

Background

This project is a major renovation of the grounds surrounding the Community Center. The Center, built in 1973, is centrally located in Sunnyvale.

In 2014, Council approved a project to renovate the grounds surrounding the Community Center. The project will have a public input phase.

In October 2021, the City awarded a contract for design services to Verde Design, Inc. The design phase kicked off November 2021.
