Washington Community Swim Center

The Washington Community Swim Center project will provide a major renovation of the Washington Pool facilities which were originally constructed in 1955.

Other pool facilities in Sunnyvale offer lap and competitive swimming, but there is currently no aquatic facility available with a focus on recreation. The renovation will significantly improve recreational swim, water play, swim lesson instruction, and other water recreation opportunities for the community.

Matt Brunnings, Senior Engineer, 408-730-7518

The swim center is nearing completion and is expected to open in early summer. The major remaining tasks include the pool plaster, concrete pool deck, landscaping and perimeter fence.

2017 - Conceptual plan approved by City Council. Design phase began.

2016 - Community outreach to collect input about desired design elements for a new swim center.

Conceptual Plan

Conceptual Plan

The final project will include some minor changes to this original conceptual plan. These changes were implemented during the design process.

The project includes:

  • New pool with zero-depth entry at the recreation side
  • Four lap lanes on the sports side
  • Expanded pool deck including a splash pad and a concrete seat bench to separate it from the pool
  • Pool locker rooms, restrooms, and showers
  • Small community room

Three new buildings will meet CALGreen construction standards. These will conform with the City's Green Building Program for new public facilities. One of the buildings will include a solar panel system. The project will also include City-use office space and on-site storage facilities.
