The Sunnyvale Community Center is a recreation campus with performing and creative arts centers, indoor sports and general recreation buildings, a senior center and an historical museum spread out around a pond and fruit orchards. The Center is where many City-sponsored community activities take place. It is also available to rent for weddings and other private venues.
The Senior Center, which includes a large ballroom and professional kitchen, hosts recreational and cultural activities for adults 50 and older.
The Performing Arts Center includes the 200-seat Sunnyvale Theatre and dance studio, which has a fully rigged and lighted stage that accommodates plays, recitals and concerts.
The theater hosts a resident theater company: The Sunnyvale Community Players, who present four to five musicals each season.
The Recreation Center is where class and facility reservations take place. The center also hosts preschool gymnastics and meetings and events.
The Indoor Sports Center hosts youth, adult and senior classes, a gymnastics program, adult sports leagues and a drop-in gym with regularly scheduled volleyball and badminton games for adults 16 and over.
For drop-in gym fees, call 408-730-7350.
The museum is housed in a replica of the home of one of Santa Clara Valley's original settlers, Martin Murphy Jr., and includes a permanent display depicting the area from its agricultural heyday to today's high-tech.
