Recreation and Fitness

The Columbia Neighborhood Center (CNC) provides a variety of recreation and fitness programs at the Center's gymnasium and fitness center at 785 Morse Avenue. Sign in for drop-in programs at the CNC lobby.

Some classes are open to high school youth (ages 14 to 17) with a signed waiver from a parent or guardian.

Youth Drop-in Gym

Drop in for a quick game of hoops. Bring friends or join a game with other players. Activities will be canceled if there are no participants within the first hour of the program.

Basketball: Mondays, 7 to 9 p.m. and Fridays, 7 to 10 p.m.

Cost: 50 cents per visit for residents, $1 for nonresidents. Cash only.

Open to youth ages 11 to 18. Middle school or high school ID is required.

Free Yoga Classes

Work on balance, strength, flexibility and relaxation while building self-awareness. Bring an exercise mat or towel.

Tuesdays, 6 to 6:50 p.m. at the Columbia Neighborhood Center Gym

Cost: Free

Open to:

  • adults
  • youth ages 10 to 13 accompanied by an adult
  • high school youth (ages 14 to 17) with a signed waiver from parent or guardian

U-Jam Fitness® Classes

Get moving with this cardio dance fitness class that incorporates various genres of music and dance styles, including hip-hop, Bollywood, K-Pop, Latin, Dancehall and Afrobeats.

Mondays, 6 to 7 p.m. at CNC Gym

Cost: $2 Resident/$3 Nonresident, cash only

Open to:

  • youth ages 10 to 13 accompanied by an adult
  • high school youth (ages 14 to 17) with a signed waiver from parent or guardian

Zumba® Classes

Get moving in this cardio dance fitness class that incorporates a variety of Latin dance styles, including hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo.

Wednesdays, 7 to 8 p.m. and Fridays, 6 to 7 p.m. at CNC Gym

Cost: $2 Resident/$3 Nonresident, cash only

Open to:

  • youth ages 10 to 13 accompanied by an adult
  • high school youth (ages 14 to 17) with a signed waiver from parent or guardian

CNC Fitness Room

Enjoy a wide range of cardio and weight-resistance equipment. Wear athletic shoes and bring a personal towel and water bottle.

Mondays, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Tuesdays, 6 to 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Wednesdays, 6:30 to 8 a.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Thursdays, 6 to 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Saturdays, 8 to 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to noon

Cost: $1, cash only. 

Sunnyvale residents only. Proof of residency required.

Karate Classes

Take part in ongoing Shotokan Karate led by Sensei Jay Castellano, 7th Dan, with assistance from Satsun Dojo Black Belts. Registration required.

Beginner to Intermediate: Tuesdays, 7 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon
Intermediate to Advanced: Thursdays, 7 to 9 p.m.
Advanced: Tuesdays, 8 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 to 10 a.m.

Cost: $20 per month for residents (proof of residency required); $40 per month for nonresidents.

Open to ages 8 and older.

How to Sign Up

New karate class participants may start the first week of January, April, July or October.
Speak to an instructor during a scheduled class session to be added to the waitlist.
