How to Register for a New Library Card

Cards are free and available to California residents.

For the fastest service for all card types, register online. You will receive your new Library card number immediately.

There are three different types of cards with varying benefits: Instant Online Access Card, Limited Access Card and Full Access Card.

Photo Identification

Acceptable forms of photo identification include:

  • California Driver's License
  • California Identification Card
  • Passport
  • Employee Identification Card
  • Student Identification Card

Proof of Address

Acceptable forms of address verification include:

  • Current utility, property tax or other bill (may show electronic version of bill)
  • Piece of mail with postmark within the last 30 days
  • Paystub

If you do not have photo identification or verification of your current mailing address, you may request the Library send you a postcard which can serve as proof of address.

Card Renewals

Library cards are good for 15 years, as long as there is circulation activity within the last 10 years.

Report lost cards immediately.
