Outdoor Services Canceled - Appointments Now Available

Due to unhealthy air quality, Sunnyvale Public Library WILL NOT be providing the regularly scheduled Express Holds Pickup service tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15 between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.; however, we WILL be starting a new service called Express Holds Pickup by Appointment between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

You may now reserve a 15-minute appointment during which you can pick up your Library materials from a table located at the Library‚Äôs entrance. You may make an appointment by visiting Express Holds Pickup by Appointment or by contacting us at 408-730-7300 or by online chat.

We will offer Express Holds Pickup by Appointment as much as possible when we are not open for regularly scheduled Express Holds Pickup and Sidewalk Service. In the case of bad air quality or other adverse weather conditions that compel a closure of outdoor operations (such as tomorrow), we will open up additional slots for appointment. We intend to operate Express Holds Pickup by Appointment in all types of weather conditions so that it can be a reliable way for you to pick up library materials at a time that is convenient for you.

Some important things to know about Express Holds Pickup by Appointment:

  • Appointments will be in increments of 15 minutes. If you do not pick up the item during that time frame, you will need to book another appointment or return during our normal Sidewalk Service or Express Holds Pickup hours.
  • Your appointment will be for materials that you have ready on the day of your appointment. If additional materials become available, you will need to book an additional appointment.
  • At the start of your appointment time, staff will place your items on a table in front of the Library doors in a safe, contactless manner.
  • Appointments can be made 10 days in advance to make sure that you can pickup your holds before they expire.
  • You may pick up items for multiple family members at the same time. Provide their name(s) and library card number(s) when making the appointment

What if I have holds to pick up?

Your holds will be waiting for you! We will extend the time to pick up your holds to account for the days we were closed.

What if I'd like to get a library card?

You can get an Instant Online Access Library card! This will give you immediate access to all of our great e-content. When we reopen, you can convert your Instant Online Access card to a Full Access card by visiting us during our library plaza hours.

Can I return my items?

We encourage everyone to stay home as much as possible to safeguard their health, but you are able to return your books to the library 24/7 through a book drop. Your items will be quarantined for at least 4 days before being checked in. REMINDER - we are now fine-free!
