Staff Advisory Committees

The City Council has established five advisory committees to assist with legislative decision-making on specific topics. Membership appointments are made by the City of Sunnyvale. Vacancies are filled throughout the year.

You must be a registered Sunnyvale voter to apply for a position on an advisory committee, unless otherwise noted.

Advisory Committee on Accessibility (ACA)

Purpose

The committee provides input to City staff on accessibility issues related to City services, programs and facilities.

Composition

Committee consists of up to seven members

Qualifications

Members must: represent a Sunnyvale resident with a disability, be a family member or caregiver of a resident with a disability, be affiliated with an agency serving someone with a disability in Sunnyvale; or be an expert in areas related to accessibility issues.

Term

Four years. Members may reapply at conclusion of term.

Columbia Neighborhood Center (CNC) Community Advisory Committee

Purpose

The Committee advises the Columbia Neighborhood Center (CNC) staff and provides input on CNC's services, identifies community needs and assists with special projects.

Composition

At least seven members from the service area approved by the CNC Joint Task Force, the CNC’s governance and oversight board. The committee includes at least one member representing the following: students, parents, school staff, business members, Sunnyvale residents and experts in areas related to CNC’s services.

Qualifications

Any member of the community who is interested in programs that serve the needs of the CNC service area, (unless that person’s spouse, household member or relative is currently serving as a member on the Joint Task force, employed at the center, serving as a member of the team or providing services at the center).

Two years, requiring about 15 hours of service annually

Senior Center Advisory Committee

Purpose

The Committee gathers input from Sunnyvale seniors and conveys their ideas, suggestions and concerns to staff at the Senior Center.

Composition

The regular membership is comprised of 14 regular members serving two-year terms:
1 - Sunnyvale Senior Citizens Club representative
1 - Advisory Council to Sourcewise (local area agency on aging)
12 - community representatives from the following Senior Center Programs: Drop-in, Trips, Table Tennis, Lawn Bowls,
Fitness Room, Lifelong Learning and Enrichment Classes

Qualifications

Any Sunnyvale resident age 50 and over with an interest in issues affecting senior residents

Term

Two years. Members may apply for a second two-year term but then must take a one-year break before reapplying (unless appointed by the Senior Citizens Club).

Teen Advisory Committee (TAC)

Purpose

The committee advises staff on teen interests related to recreation and volunteerism. TAC also coordinates recreation events and volunteer opportunities for teens throughout the year.

Composition

Committee consists of 12 teens from private high schools, as well as local high schools within the City limits. These schools include, but are not limited to, Wilcox, Homestead and Fremont high schools.

Qualifications

Must be a Sunnyvale resident in Grades 8 through 12, between the ages of 13 and 18 and willing to commit to a two-year term on the committee
