State of the City Address and Community Awards Ceremony

Mayor Glenn Hendricks will deliver the annual State of the City address, followed by the City Council's presentation of the Sunnyvale Community Awards. These awards honor the contributions of some of the residents who make Sunnyvale a special place to live.

The City accepted award nominations from the community this summer. Nominations were reviewed by a panel of former Community Awards winners.

This year’s awardees are:

  • Contribution to the Arts – Sunnyvale Community Players
  • Educator of the Year – Alex Ha (from Lakewood Elementary School)
  • High School Student of the Year – Melissa Lee (from Fremont High School)
  • Environmental Achievement – Project Revive (Homestead High School Future Business Leaders of America)
  • Business of the Year – Sunnyvale Martial Arts Academy
  • Distinguished Resident of the Year – Tara Martin-Milius

Mayor Hendricks will also present the special Mayor’s Award of Excellence. By tradition, this award winner is not named until the ceremony.

Interactive Chalk Art Zone – Reserve a Space Today!

This year's event will feature a new interactive Chalk Art zone. Community chalk artists will create temporary art exhibits on this year's State of the City theme, "Celebrate Sunnyvale. It’s all here!" – a celebration of community and the exciting changes happening in downtown Sunnyvale.

You can also take part in this hands-on project by reserving a space in the Chalk Art Zone for your own creations. Everyone is welcome to participate for FREE and can work as a group or individually. All chalk art supplies will be provided.
