The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting energetic volunteers for our 35th annual Hands on the Arts special event, which takes place May 16.
Hands on the Arts is a multi-cultural arts festival for children to explore hands-on art projects under the guidance of professional artists and dedicated volunteers.
The event includes more than 30 fun and interactive arts, crafts, and visual arts activities or workshops throughout the day. The festival will also focus on supporting the City's STEM to STEAM initiative by providing workshops integrating science, technology, engineering and mathematics with art, as maker projects.
Volunteer at Hands on the Arts
When: May 15 or May 16
Where: Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 E. Remington Drive
Volunteers will be assigned to a specific activity or workshop to assist the professional artist leading that project. Tasks may include organizing, prepping, re-stocking and cleaning-up supplies and assisting the kids with the projects.
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers that can work the full day are preferred, but half day shifts are also available.
Volunteer shifts include:
All volunteers are required to pre-register; we are unable to accommodate volunteer walk-ups on the day of the event.
To register, fill out and submit a Hands on the Arts Volunteer Application
All volunteers 18 years and older must complete the City's fingerprinting process prior to volunteering. Fingerprinting involves a brief appointment at the City of Sunnyvale's Department of Public Safety or Human Resources Department at no cost to the volunteer. Once an application is received, and if the applicant is 18 years old and older, the City will send the information about the fingerprinting process and how to schedule an appointment. To ensure the City receives the results prior to the event, the last day to be fingerprinted is May 1.
Volunteers must be at least 13 years old to volunteer.
Volunteers are also needed to help prepare art supplies for the event. Typical Prep Party activities include: counting, cutting, gluing and separating supplies. Currently scheduled prep parties are listed below. Additional dates may be added.
To RSVP for a Prep Party, contact Nathan Truitt, 408-730-7472.
