The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) maps a community’s flood zones and identifies hazardous areas.
Find your property's flood zone designation and learn more about your flood risk by using the Sunnyvale Flood Zone Viewer
You can also contact City staff to find your flood zone:
There are certain areas of Sunnyvale which FEMA has designated as Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA). These areas are considered high risk for flooding.
The most current update to the FEMA flood insurance rate maps is dated May 18, 2009.
Search a FEMA map to find out if your property is in an SFHA
Standard property insurance does not cover losses from flooding. All Sunnyvale residents, including renters, can sign up for discounted flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Manufactured homes or tractor trailers have additional considerations. Contact an insurance agent to discuss your individual situation.
The City is a voluntary participant in the NFIP's Community Rating System program, and has secured a 15 percent discount on flood insurance policies for properties within the Special Flood Hazard Area.
Think about purchasing flood insurance proactively. When you purchase flood insurance, there is a 30-day mandatory waiting period before it goes into effect.
