Home Buyer Programs

Below Market Rate Home Ownership Program

The City requires developers of large housing projects to sell a percentage of the homes at below market prices to low- and moderate-income households through the Below Market Rate (BMR) Home Ownership program. BMR homes are not subsidized by the City, but prices are restricted by the City. The BMR Home Ownership Program is administered by the Housing Division.

Who qualifies for the program?

You must:

  • Meet income limits
  • Be a first-time home buyer
  • Live or work in Sunnyvale from time of application through close of escrow
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Pass the criminal background check
  • Be purchase-ready

How do I apply?

Determine the number of bedrooms that your household qualifies for by reviewing the BMR Home Ownership Program Guidelines, Exhibit III: Occupancy Standards.

Households eligible for one-bedroom: Subscribe to the BMR Interest List to receive email updates on future availability of one-bedroom units. We are not accepting applications at this time.

Households eligible for two-, three-, and four-bedrooms: Continue to the Home Buyer Application Process.
