Fun Facts

  • The building’s natural materials, design and floating central staircase are intended to feel like being in a treehouse. The nature theme carries throughout the building. It is also surrounded by native landscaping and walking trails.
  • Over 1,600 solar panels on the roof will help generate as much energy as the building uses (Net Zero Energy).
    • The panels will generate over a million kilowatt-hours of power annually. This could power about 103 homes for a year.
    • Many of the panels are bifacial. They absorb sunlight from both the top and reflected light from the underside.
    • A battery (microgrid) stores power from the solar panels for emergency use and a back-up generator is installed on the south side of the building.

Points of Interest

  • Council Chambers:  Holds about 200 people which is double the capacity of the old Chambers. It also has built-in support for the public to participate remotely.
  • Meeting Rooms:  These will be reservable for public use in the near future.
  • Nature Theme:  The open triangles in the ceiling mimic the pattern of light filtering through the leaves of a tree. Triangles appear elsewhere such as in the tilework behind the reception desks and the glass in the entry awning.
