Notice Under the Americans with Disabilities Act
Services, Programs and Activities
The City of Sunnyvale does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities in compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).
City Facilities
The City of Sunnyvale strives to make City facilities accessible to all visitors. In support of this goal, City facilities are consistently upgraded to comply with changing ADA requirements. Complaints that a program, service or activity of the City is not accessible to persons with disabilities should follow the complaint procedure.
Employment
The City does not discriminate based on disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA and the California Fair Employment and Housing Act.
Effective Communication
The City will also provide effective communication support to allow equal participation. Accommodations may include qualified sign language interpreters or documents in Braille.
Request Accommodation
Upon request, the City will provide reasonable accommodation to qualified persons with disabilities to ensure equal access. For example, service animals are permitted in public access areas where pets are generally prohibited.
Anyone requiring accommodation should contact the ADA Coordinator (contact information below) as soon as possible. The City cannot guarantee an accommodation if you make a request less than 48 hours before the scheduled activity. The City will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the costs of accommodations, such as the provision of auxiliary aids or program accessibility modifications.

Prohibition of Retaliation
The City will not retaliate against anyone who exercises their rights under the ADA, or assist others. The City prohibits any form of retaliation or coercion, including threats, intimidation, or interference.
Formal ADA Complaint Procedure
You may submit a formal complaint under Title II of the ADA. Read the complaint procedures and instructions:
NOTE: This complaint procedure is not for reporting complaints against private landlords, private businesses, other government agencies, or other non-City entities. Contact the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division to file a discrimination complaint against a private landlord, private business or other non-City entity. Complaints against a non-City of Sunnyvale government agency should be directed to that agency.
The City has a separate procedure for employment-related complaints alleging disability discrimination under Title I of the ADA. These complaints may also be covered by the California Fair Employment and Housing Act. Contact the California Civil Rights Department.
