Looking to get involved in your community? You can help make a difference by serving on a City board or commission. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis. Appointments are made by City Council as needed throughout the year.
Requirements, unless otherwise noted:
- You must be a resident of Sunnyvale to apply for a position on a City board or commission.
- Members serve four-year terms.

Before you apply
Decide which boards and commissions you want to apply for.
Read about what each one does. On Boards and Commissions you’ll want to:
- Read about the Qualifications and Composition category requirements.
- Requirements are different for each board or commission. Check that you meet the requirements.
- See when Meetings are held.
- If you want to serve, it's a good idea to go to meetings. You can get familiar with the board's duties and meet current members.
- Review the Work Plan for the year.

We accept applications throughout the year for future openings. We retain applications for one year.

We’ll review your application for eligibility requirements.
We’ll contact you within two business days about next steps.
We schedule qualified applicants for an interview with City Council.
City Council makes board and commission appointments at their regular meetings.
